by Renae Virata The hair products drawer in my bathroom is packed with products that I’ve collected over the years.  Some to create volume, some to smooth down frizz and flyaways, most to style.  After months of testing out all these products, I just may have found the best of the best for any weather or travel situation:

What to wear to Thanksgiving Dinner

Dressing for Thanksgiving is one of those occasions where one has to think realistically as a major consideration for stuffing, mashed potato and turkey related bloat must be made! There’s nothing that makes an outfit looks worse than discomfort, and I am never comfortable when I can’t eat what I want or if something feels too tight. Read the rest of this entry »

Fall Wedding Outfits

For two consecutive years, I have attended two beautiful autumn weddings — the first, my best friend Elliot’s from high school; the second, my best friend John’s from law school. The similarities are curious, pumpkins as decorations, ceremonies by a lake with a backdrop of trees and mountains, dogs in the bridal party, and of course true love. After these two weddings, I am more than prepared for another autumn nuptial, an expert for dressing the part as guest, and think perhaps the cool bite of a fall breeze is a most romantic necessity for a wedding. Kilts. Haggis. Rob Roy. Edinburgh has always had a rather Wuthering Heights-esque aura, with its people’s dressing to match. If you are traveling to Edinburgh during wintertime, obviously you can look forward to the amazing Hogmanay celebrations. However, you will definitely be greeted by the wet and cold weather unique to the British Isles, so make sure you are armed with trench coats and warm wellies, the top fashion staple of Scotland. Is the poncho back?

Daisy Fuentes cape, $31.20. Click to shop.

by Renae Virata

I always regret selling this fabulous and heavily-discounted fur trimmed poncho I used to have that looked straight out of a 70s fashion mag spread.  Maybe it had lost its luster a few years ago, but as an interesting stand-alone part of my wardrobe, it deserved a place.  I regret it even more today because it looks like…they’re baaa-ack!  And the cape’s made its way onto the scene, too. Rain boots that add a little sunshine – 18 styles

Good Souls rain boot

I LOVE my rainboots.  They are so practical for a walk with my little pug or a quick jaunt to the grocery store on a wet day.  I decided, however, that practical doesn’t have to LOOK practical. So I searched high and low for the perfect pair of limited-edition-Jimmy-Choo-Hunter look-alikes and finally found them.  My black reptile-textured rubber wellies work with so much in my closet that they have a very real and proper spot on my shoe rack.  And you can find your perfect pair, too!
