Travel Diary: Keratin smoothing treatment

by Renae Virata

Since my trips to Thailand and India will be fast-paced and limited on proper beauty prep areas (I’m not bringing a hairdryer, products and must share two bathrooms with 7 other gals!), I decided to take some beauty shortcuts to make my trip a little easier.  Two weeks ago I did the keratin smoothing treatment and tomorrow, I am getting gel nails! A break from the winter doldrums is just what many of us need. So if you’re lucky enough to make an escape to somewhere warm and far away, then you need to trade in your sweaters and boots for brightly-colored tanks and sandals. Read the rest of this entry »

One of our readers is traveling to the island of Roatan in Honduras pretty soon, so I knew immediately who to ask for advice on what to wear – my good friend Brandi.  Her enthusiasm for this largest of Honduras’ Bay Islands tells you right away what an amazing Caribbean vacay it is.  Like most islands that have yet to be overrun by a consistent deluge of tourists, Roatan style is “VERY laid back” according to Brandi. What to wear to a Puerto Rican wedding

This question came in from a reader about what to wear to a Puerto Rican-style wedding.

Q: My boyfriend and I were invited to a wedding. Both the bride and groom are Puerto Rican, and I’m not exactly sure what to wear to a Puerto Rican wedding (i.e what they consider formal or casual). Help?

Island life is the very definition of the Bahamas.  The people are friendly, the weather is perfect, and you can pretty much find a party most days of the week.  Which is why it was so hard to leave the beautiful, glassy waters of this Caribbean utopia just a short 30-minute flight from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Airport Style: FPO (Freeport, Bahamas)

Airport style - Freeport, Bahamas - What to wear

by Renae Virata

This travelista was leaving for a trip to Miami when we spotted her in the Freeport, Bahamas, airport.  I couldn’t help noticing how more formally dressed she was compared to all the other airport goers clad in borderline beachwear (me: guilty!). And love her neutral but bright light gray polish.

You love boats, you love beaches…why not combine the two on a fabulous multi-day cruise?  If you love to explore, party and, in between, sneak some moments of R-and-R, then a tropical cruise is right up your alley.  An extended stay on a virtually moving hotel with port-side excursions every other day is a great way to pack in a lot of vacay for a just a little.  With so much to do, though, packing can be a challenge! One of our fabulous travelistas on the go, go, go is taking a fabulous trip to Puerto Rico to attend a wedding. As the 42nd-largest city under the United States, Puerto Rico’s capital San Juan blends the best of the tropics, old school charm, and everything a city has to offer.  The locals appreciate style, so looking your best is never a bad idea!  Nightlife is abundant, but the dress code is not on par with more glitzy tropical counterparts like Miami. Among the favorite activities to consider dressing for are walking through historic Old San Juan, hiking through rainforests and mountains, and the stretches of white beaches!
