Airport Style: FPO (Freeport, Bahamas)

Airport style - Freeport, Bahamas - What to wear

by Renae Virata

This travelista was leaving for a trip to Miami when we spotted her in the Freeport, Bahamas, airport.  I couldn’t help noticing how more formally dressed she was compared to all the other airport goers clad in borderline beachwear (me: guilty!). And love her neutral but bright light gray polish.

If you’re the adventurous type, the best way to cross over the hundreds of grachten (canals) in Amsterdam is to hop on a bicycle.  Everywhere you go, you’ll see rows and rows if not whole clumps of bikes parked next to storefronts or chained to bridge rails.  Be prepared with an outfit that will make those vacation pics worth sharing yet comfortable while you pedal your way through this historic and enchanting city. Why trip wardrobes are worth the effort

My fabulous hair stylist Nubia was just recounting to me the story of one of her clients who’d recently traveled to Europe with her family.  She was a mom who was not into having to do laundry during the trip nor soiling their best clothes as they traipsed through tours and excursions.  So what did she do?  Made them bring the oldest clothes they owned!  That way they could just throw them away after they’d worn them.

Casual glamour takes on a whole new meaning with this season’s “fancier” sweatshirts.  Whenever I used to think of sweatshirts, I thought sporty, loungy (as in on my couch) and pure comfort.  So what takes a sweatshirt to the next level?  Versatility, finer details and a good blend of pattern and / or color.

It seems like summer hardly arrives in nor leaves LA, but the fashion gods dictate that fall fashion must make its appearance despite the weather.  Light dresses and rompers (now here to stay?) get new life in the fall with some smart layering under a boyfriend blazer.

Light fabrics like rayon and silk look fresh for fall with a blazer, sleeves rolled up and slightly oversized.  Add booties and a light scarf, and you’ve got a look that can go from lunch to cocktails without a hitch! Read the rest of this entry »

Umbrella fashion

Flower $27

by Renae Virata

Just because the weather outside is blah doesn’t mean your umbrella has to be!  When people can’t see what you’re wearing on rainy days this summer, make a style statement when you’re under cover.

It’s easy to forget how something as useful as an umbrella can also act as an accessory.  There is no better way to spread some much needed cheer on a gray day than strolling the streets with a beautiful, giant flower or a photographic image of Paris that you can get lost in.
