Road Trip! What to wear on the Blue Ridge Parkway (North Carolina/Virginia)

Photo | DiscoverLynchburg.com

by Renae Virata | You wouldn’t believe it unless you saw it, but the mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway really look – blue! I was lucky to make this trip (for work, no less!) for a stretch a few years back. Definitely a wonderful break in between meetings.  (Read below to know why they’re so blue.)  Higher elevations mean it can get somewhat cool, so, again, layers work best.  Have some fun with your pics and do a blue-themed wardrobe.  And make sure you’re comfortable if you decide to do a mini-hike to scope out some nature.

Road Trip! What to wear on North Shore Scenic Drive (Minnesota)

north shore scenic drive minnesota what to wearby Renae Virata | This route is like a rainbow of Midwest natural beauty: green forests, blue waters and red cliffs.  And it makes a fabulous getaway from the heat of summer wherever you are!  From June through August, the average high reaches about 77 degrees F while the average lows can dip to as low as 48 degrees F.  That means a light jacket or cardigan during the day and a medium jacket at night.  The style culture super casual, so a classic chambray shirt and cotton maxi skirt or a slim version of cargos with a fun tee are all you need.

Road Trip! What to wear on the Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway (New York)

Photo | VisitFingerLakes

by Renae Virata | Who knew that just a few short hours away from the Big Apple could be some of the most beautiful road trip-worthy lanes in the country?  Temperatures in this region of New York state are super mild, so layers work best.  Think San Francisco on the East Coast.  Dress is more conservative than you’d find on other road trips in, say, California or Florida, so work in skinny jeans, for example, with a loose top.  Enjoy a summer stroll through any one of the local vineyards and get some history in while you’re at it with some of the most interesting sites of the women’s movement, for example, in the area.

Road Trip! What to wear on the San Juan Skyway (Colorado)

by Renae Virata | This scenic route varies in elevation amongst the mountains which means it could get c-c-c-cold!  Temperatures can dip into the upper 40s at night, so make sure you bring a medium-weight scarf and a medium-weight jacket (like leather, for example) with you to cover up.  Mid-calf boots will work fabulously even as temperatures rise into the mid-80s.  We love the idea of a prairie dress to make your way through the little towns or skinny jeans with a long tunic sweater and vest.

Road Trip! What to wear on the Dine’ Tah Scenic Road (Arizona)

Wanna see something this beautiful? Drive down the Dine' Tah Scenic Road.

by Renae Virata | The weather is typical of the desert, making a visit to this scenic route an exciting summer adventure.  Temps during the day reach well into the 90s (F) while nighttime temps can go as low as the mid-50s.  Smart packing requires thin layers and a medium-weight jacket for night.

Arizona in general has a more casual vibe to its general style, so no need to go overboard!  Cowboy boots are a staple wherever you go and no matter the temp while a light leather or denim jacket will keep you covered when the thermometer goes down.
