What to wear in Scandinavia in the winter

what to wear in scandinaviaby Renae Virata

When I think of places like Norway, Sweden, and Denmark (collectively known as Scandinavia, which sometimes includes Finland and Iceland), I think of this time of year.  Being so far up north on the European continent, these countries  epitomize a beautifully snowy holiday – and the clothes to match!  But Scandinavian wardrobes this time of year are more than just the knit sweaters with winter symbols that we love to wear come Christmas.  There’s a sophistication and modernity that is light years ahead of the fashion that we see everywhere else in the world.  To answer our questions on what to wear in Scandinavia this winter, check out travelista Beate Christian Gran’s responses.  She just got back from Norway and has a lot to say on the subject!

Kilts. Haggis. Rob Roy. Edinburgh has always had a rather Wuthering Heights-esque aura, with its people’s dressing to match. If you are traveling to Edinburgh during wintertime, obviously you can look forward to the amazing Hogmanay celebrations. However, you will definitely be greeted by the wet and cold weather unique to the British Isles, so make sure you are armed with trench coats and warm wellies, the top fashion staple of Scotland. What to Wear Sailing on the East Coast

Sailing - Sinta 2Bohemians go to the beach for the summer and the preppies go sailing! Sailing is a traditional summer luxury along the East Coast. It seems like Barcelona is the place to travel pretty much any time of the year.  From the plethora of historical finds to cozy cafes at which to relax, this Catalan city has a ton to offer.  Style in Barcelona is reflected in the more formal attitude of its denizen lending to the semi-conservative legacy of a city once heavily influenced by the Catholic Church.  In general, Barcelona style is what we call polished but relaxed, conservative with flair and a bit of edge. With the impending wedding of Prince William to his princess-to-be Kate Middleton on April 29, I can’t help but add my two cents to what seems to be about a million dollars worth of commentary on her chic fashion sense.  I could talk about her blue Issa dress, her collection of hats, and her fun club style, but there’s so much more to what her fabulous wardrobe means to a generation of women than meets the eye.   So, as one of those women, I am happy to see that Kate Middleton is the new style icon for the simultaneously poised, sexy and independent chick in her mid-20s to 30s that we’ve been missing for the past decade. The Essential Legging

Audrey Hepburn-Sabrinaby Alexandra Escobar

It all began in 1957, when a certain woman we love, the late Audrey Hepburn, dazzled us with something so chic, so elegant that we thought to ourselves, “Why didn’t we think of that?” The Funny Face gal wore something that now has become a comfortable, fashionable, and important piece to every woman’s wardrobe: the legging.
