Airport style proves city style

by Renae Virata

Today, I got proof that location and style go hand-in-hand.  While I waited for my flight to Chicago from Houston, I noticed that my fellow passengers waiting at the gate with me looked odd.  Not in a bad way, just…different.  In other words, they didn’t look like they were headed to the Windy City at all.

Minutes later, the gate attendant announces that the flight to Corpus Christi was now boarding.  Oops…I was at the wrong gate (after a long day, ’47′ looks like ’42′ on those super high-up, tiny departure screens).

Thankfully, my flight was leaving at the same time.  I breathed a sigh of relief upon arriving at Gate 47 – clad in a definitively more urban style (boots, leggings, muted colors, light scarves), the Chicago passengers let me know I was at the right gate.  I had to laugh as I made my way through the line to the jet bridge.  My little mistake between two airport gates had perfectly proved how every city has a definite style culture that cannot be mistaken for any other.
