How would you describe Atlanta style?
I would say that Atlanta style is “urban chic.” Atlanta is predominantly black and has become known as “Black Hollywood.” We mix urban street style with high fashion.
What are the major influences on Atlanta style?
As Atlanta has been the mecca for hip-hop the past few years, that culture has had the most influence on local style. Major rappers and R&B singers hail from the area, including Ludacris, Usher, Keri Hilson, and T.I. Since most people who live in Atlanta are not from here, I would also say that we influence each other, so there are a lot of different styles.
Atlanta has become the place to be, to live, and to shop, especially for young blacks. We are influenced by the celebrity lifestyle. With many black celebs living and frolicking among us, we want to keep up with them, live and dress like they do. It is seen as the place where African Americans are thriving and are hugely successful.
Atlanta’s fashion scene has evolved over the past five years, and we now have our own fashion week. Atlanta is also the home of AmericasMart, which is the largest apparel market on the East Coast. A number of up and coming designers, such as Mychael Knight and Anthony Williams, who appeared on the third season of Project Runway, have also called attention to the growing fashion scene.

What are trends that you see all over Atlanta for Fall / Winter 2010?
Leggings of all colors and styles are a major trend here in Atlanta right now and going into winter. We also love to accessorize with big and bold jewelry especially bangles.
What are the must-haves that every chic Atlanta girl must have?
In every ATL girl’s closet you will find a sexy black dress, a chic blazer, leggings of course, at least one pair of platform pumps, thigh high boots and lots of bling!
What should a visitor to Atlanta pack for any part of her trip?
Atlanta is definitely a tourist city, but the style of dress is not really casual and laid back. We like to dress up here. You will find us dressed up just for a shopping trip, so when you come here you definitely have to “bring it.”
With all the things to do in Atlanta you never know where your day will take you when you leave for the day, so you must be prepared. That quick shopping trip can turn into drinks with the girls downtown or an impromptu invite to the Hawks game. A versatile everday outfit would be jeans or leggings, a white tee, a fitted blazer or leather jacket, and a pair of boots. Accessories are very important to Atlanta girls, so you will see her with a fabulous bag and statement jewelry.
