It’s a strange feeling when it’s fall all around you in everything but the actual weather. So how do you reconcile the warm weather and your innate desire to dress for the season?A great place to start is with color. Light but dusty or muted colors can help visually put you into a fall mood without sacrificing your comfort.

Shorts with a cardigan or 3/4-length top are also a great way to balance the temperature vs. season conundrum. It might be too warm, though, for your tweed shorts, so test it out. You would be much safer with a cool-handed tweed (i.e. something not as woolly) or a thicker cotton pair. Keep the shorts modest – micro-shorts scream summer which is what you’re trying to avoid!

Shoes always “punctuate” the outfit. Say “It might be warm, but it’s still fall” in open-toe booties, a wider-strapped sandal, boots that you could get away with in the summer time (like your favorite cowboy boots or thin leather slip-ons) or a medium-weight leather flat in a fabulous fall texture like snakeskin or leopard. Balance your look with a cute mini, light leggings, or medium-weight shorts; a light shirt or knit tee; and an easy, super lightweight scarf. The goal is to feel comfortable in the heat while looking the season.
