What to wear in London

Recently, I had the opportunity to accompany my husband to London while he was conducting business. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity because I hadn’t made it across the pond yet.  I was ecstatic about seeing the amazing history of London come alive before my own curious eyes and couldn’t wait to take in all the fantastic sites the city has to offer.

I wasn’t exactly sure how to dress for the trip because I’m always a little uneasy at trying to gauge what a certain temperature will really feel like (Editor’s note: you can use WeareverTheWeather.com’s My Stylist feature!).  As I’m from the blazing hot city of Houston, any temp below 75 degrees is “chilly” in my mind.  So, I decided to take a variety of pieces which I could layer as I saw fit.

London Style

Walking around the city, I observed the local fashion in this magical city to be immaculate, effortless, and almost thrown together with just enough panache to create incredibly chic ensembles.  Instead of taking pictures of the Tower of London and Big Ben, my camera was capturing the funky fashionistas on the street.

What to Wear in London

To keep warm but still stay in line with London style, I would suggest a pair of black, opaque tights.  You can put these tights under all kinds of wardrobe staples such as dresses, jean shorts, jean skirts, jeans (if you are super cold), and even skirts.  You can top off any of these looks with the coordinating shoe of your choice.

My personal suggestion would be a lace dress as the staple piece.  Add a black turtleneck along with a pair of black tights underneath for warmth.  Flat or low-heeled shoes add comfort and ease. Depending on your personal temperature gauge, you can continue to layer with either a moto jacket for contrast against the lace dress or go all-the-way glam with a pea coat to top off your look.  And if you’re sensitive to chilly outside temperatures, a scarf is the perfect accessory.
