We know it’s still sort of mid-September, but Halloween is really just around the corner. In order to avoid that last-minute scramble to the nearest party store to pick up the last sexy (fill in the blank) costume, we thought we’d help you get your costume hunt started with some creative ideas inspired by what was hot in 2010. Check out upcoming blogposts for some great old-school ideas you’ve probably long forgotten but definitely need to bring back.

Mad Men
As provocative as it is telling of life in the 60s, Mad Men is fraught with fun excuses to style your hair a la Betty or even don a red wig as Bobbie. Partner up with a friend or your significant other to play Don, and you’ve got an intriguingly unique famous couple costume that will have people in-the-know say, “Oh, yeahhhh…”
Tips: Don’t forget the red lipstick, pearls, and for a night look, gloves!

Jersey Shore‘s Snooki
The perfect excuse to buy those Bumpits that you’ve been so curious about (do they really work?). The most colorful “character” on the popular MTV show for sure, you can spread Snooki-love this Halloween with a few simple pieces.
Tips: Slip on some fishnets and a long-sleeve lace tee to complete the look. Instead of spray-tanning, opt for a good bronzing lotion.

Lady Gaga
We know, you’ve probably already thought of this, right? And think so many others are going to also? But every Lady Gaga will be different, and if you didn’t get to dress up for her Monster Ball 2010 concert tour, then now’s your chance! Just please don’t show up in her VMA meat get-up unless it’s faux!
Tips: If you want to shop your own closet, try black faux leather leggings (we know you’ve been meaning to wear them!), your big-shouldered blazer with the sleeves rolled up, and a black bra.

The amazing setting, the 3-D effects, new blue people to fall in love with! Halloween is the perfect time to bring the character of Neytiri to life. Luckily you don’t have to paint yourself totally blue to make it work.
Tips: Make sure the makeup you use will cover your entire face and (if you want) your hands. Also, make sure you read the instructions for removal in case you need to buy anything special. Yellow color contacts a bonus!
