What to Wear for Football Season

by Renae Virata

You’ve been ready with your fantasy team since April.  Your favorite teams’ schedules are prominently displayed on the fridge.  And you’re pretty much booked up until Super Bowl with every tailgate, game, and watch party you’ve been invited to.  Can you look as good as you do on a non-game day and show off your spirit at the same time?  We say: Absolutely.  Here are a few ways you can dress for any football season event like the true, fashionable fan you are.

Live and loud

Going to the game or hanging out in the lot?  Showing off your team spirit is first and foremost, comfort a close second.  Looking good is icing on the cake.

A number of super smart business fashionistas have finally answered the call for cuter, team-oriented game-day wear, among them actress Alyssa Milano.  Her line Touch is a fabulous collection of  game apparel pieces that let you don your favorite team’s jersey or logo without having to set foot in the guys’ or kids’ sections.  Adorable hoodies, sexy long sleeve tees, and…peasant blouses?  Forget game day, you can wear these pieces anytime.

Try to leave the heels at home.  Long walks, climbing steep stadium steps, and lots of standing might not let you get away so easily with anything but flats – no matter how comfortable you say your Jimmys are.  Instead, wear your favorite flats or slip on your cute street shoes to finish off your outfit.

As the weather turns crisper and, in most cases, wetter, make sure you’re prepared.  There’s nothing worse than being caught in the rain or shivering your booty off before kick off.  Check the weather and bring a good bag of essentials you might need later.  Even better, carry a chic and sporty one from a line like Adidas or Puma to make room for an umbrella, hat, and / or scarf – just in case.

Hanging out

If you end up at someone’s house or at a local bar, give your jersey or tee a break and have more fun with your outfit.  Rooting for the Bears?  Layer your favorite orange jacket over a navy and white striped top and skinny jeans with your favorite gray boots.  Show your purple and gold pride with a casual perfect-for-fall plum sweater dress and jazz it up with a few gold accessories.

Tru Colors offers a great line of basic but feminine silhouettes to help you be “true to your style” and “true to your team.”  We’re talking one-shoulder dresses, sexy strapless tops, and perfect hoodies.  And every piece is in a comfortable knit fabric for a comfortable game-watching experience.  Our favorite is the long-sleeved turtleneck “Amanda” dress, named after one of the founders’ sorority sisters.  How much easier can going from the game to the after-party be?  Love it, love it, love it.

For the minimalist (AKA who’s-playing?-but-don’t-want-to-feel-left-out game-watcher)

Stick to a basic combo of jeans or a casual pant or skirt, an artful solid tee or sweater, and a cozy scarf in your home team’s colors.  It’s a simple way to be you while still showing off some spirit.
