Burberry Prorsum Fall 2009; via Style.com

In most parts of the country, June is wedding month. In Texas and the South, our Octobers pile up with wedding invitations because the worst of the heat is finally over, but for some couples it just makes sense to get hitched in the middle of the winter.

But what are the rules for dressing up when it’s cold and blustery outside? Keep reading for our tips on what to wear to a winter wedding.

Anyone who’s ever been a bridesmaid in a wedding knows full well what happens to that poofy, sad dress after its moment has passed.  It ends up in the back of the closet in its original dryclean plastic never to be seen by human eyes again (until you clean out your closet or move).  But it doesn’t have to be a total waste!  Here are some ideas on how to find a wearable place in your wardrobe for your old bridesmaid dresses.

Houston is the fourth largest city in the nation and home to big industries like energy, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and aerospace, which draw people from all four corners of the world.  It’s hard to ignore all the influences that make up the Bayou City’s style culture being a relatively up and coming “place to be” on the US map.  Indeed, a continually rising arts and fashion scene with big names like Chloe Dao, Miguel Rodriguez and Laura Mercier Cosmetics brings to the world scene what Houstonians have been for decades: modern, stylish, and balanced between classic conservatism and casual funk.

Believe it or not, you’ll want to dress sort of like you do every day, except a bit more nicely. Unless you have a hired car, seat assignments and your own mini-portfolio on Style.com, Jak & Jil or The Sartorialist, you’ll kill yourself either by tripping in your high, pointy heels or freezing to death in your sequined cocktail dresses. Resortwear has been selling  online and in the department stores since Christmastime, and places like Bergdorf Goodman are already showcasing new spring lines. So what do you do if you’ve caught spring fever but it’s still bitterly cold and snowing where you live?

The queen of the getaway — whether she’s in St. Tropez, Ibiza, Thailand or Glastonbury — is hands-down Kate Moss, because she looks stylish and comfortable, always. And after decades of a modeling career that’s taken her around the world to fashion shows, editorial and ad campaign shoots, and business ventures, she’s had a bit of practice piecing together the perfect travel outfits.

Today, Popsugar highlighted some of Kate’s mantras for healthy, balanced living, including this tip for packing for vacation:

“I wear black; always trousers — stretchy black jeans and a flat shoe or boot. And I have my own blanket.”

We definitely agree: stretchy black jeans don’t ever look dirty, and they hold their shape after overnight flights. And even a Manolos fan like Kate could use a comfy shoe when dodging the paparazzi at Heathrow.
